Melania Jack & Patty Preece
The Ironing Maidens
Melania Jack brings to the project, education and industry experience in music production, performance, film production, projection design and arts project management. Her broad experience has provided her with a wide range of skills and enthusiasm for cross-platform, multimedia projects. Melania has a background in live performance, starting independently as a songwriter. She has produced a number of stage productions including Our Regional Centre, a large cast show with a narrative focusing on the particular challenges of regional artists which ran for a season at Adelaide Feast Festival and sold out shows in NSW. She has created projected visual elements for a number of projects including the dirtgirlworld musical at the Sydney Opera house 2016. Her focus with the Ironing Maidens project is to bring out the social/political concepts within the narrative of the show through the lyrics and songwriting. She has a Masters in Creative Industries.
Patty Preece graduated as Valedictorian from the SAE Byron Bay Bachelor of Audio Production and continued to work as a VET teacher and Head HE tutor, specialising in studio production and music production for screen and radio. She currently lectures at Central Queensland University in music and production. Patty has designed sound elements for a number of projects, most recently for the project We Are The Trees - installed at the National Museum in Canberra. Patty is the producer and instrument builder on the Ironing Maidens project, developing MIDI controllers and custom Synthesisers inside domestic irons to use as performance instruments. She has a passion for experimentation with non-traditional instrument design and its influence on the creative practice of music composition. Patty is currently finishing her Masters in Digital Instrument Design.
