Outcomes
Across 2021 and 2022, Local Giants facilitated the Regional Producers Program and three Regional Artist Residencies and commissioned seven new works.
The inaugural Regional Producers Program was hailed a great success, bringing together 15 producers from regional areas around Australia. Participant feedback pointed to the rare opportunity to build relationships with peers, gain valuable professional development from industry leaders they wouldn’t otherwise have access to, and a renewed sense of confidence in their own practice as invaluable takeaways from their months in the program.
The Regional Artist Residencies engaged 42 artists across three states, and has already seen seven new Australian works commissioned, with support by presenting partners involved in the development of the work through these residencies. Connections, collaborations and friendships gained in this unique program extend well into the future for all involved.
Culture Counts was engaged to assess the Regional Producers Program and Regional Artist Residencies and produced an interim report. The report found that:
100% of RPP Participants would recommend the program to others.
77% of RAR participants provided positive comments, and all set practical next steps.
Touring, New Skills & Supporting Artists were the most popular reasons for RRP participation.
Mentors were reported as the most valuable element of artist residencies.
